Actually in looking at the last picture, it was of the lower truss and we were measuring the upper truss in the pic posted...but you get the idea...

Here's a closeup of the same angle.

And here's the end view...y axis is offset 0.125 inches to line up with the hole.

When doing conviluted angles over and over it really helps to keep your drawing notes close at hand....like right on the mill table

After milling the relief angle in the first Catch Block its time to mount it on the Back Plate to see if it looks correct before going any further...

Don't even want to think about having to make 8 New Catch Blocks if it wrong!!!

OK, that look like it will work...back and machine the rest of the Catch Blocks...

Here we have assembled them on the Back Plate.

Next attach the lower mid-ring and tighten up the screws.

Boy is it stiff, and thumping anything and it's like tapping on a lead brick...NO vibration at all

Here's a shot showing the relief space that we milled in the lower Catch Blocks.

As we said before the upper Catch Blocks were not done with enough angle.

The pic shows the original amount milled on the right and the differance after remilling with 8.5 degrees on the left.

And finally the assembled OTA with the carbon fiber tubes...

Everything fits very nicely and is not only stiff and vibration resistant, but looks really Cool.

Hope you enjoy the progress as much as I am...

End in sight

Next we will work on the Mount that will attach the OTA to the Paramount...but first, we need to take the lower Truss Tubes out, gage thier length and Locktite the Ball Ends to lenght...

Then reassemble and take careful measurements for the design of the Mounting plate.

Regards,

Preston

Hubert I concure...I want this on the mount ASAP...

But we have to get everything on it right first...

And we are trying...

I hope to be able to get to the primary robotic mirror cover...before the Group takes over the OTA in early December...

Time will tell...

Preston

So we have the basic design down for the OTA to Paramound mount down and have the G-Code programed for the lightening...

That's 12+ hours on the CNC router running at 25 inches per minute with a depth cut of 0.050" down each time...3 hours + per pocket for the 4 pockets...

and then we will have many hours of manual machining the bolt holes that are angled to attach to the Back Plate and other areas to be relieved..

It was really telling today that the time away from the programming took time to get back to the basic line...far Too much for my liking...

Pics and design illistrations tomorrow...

Preston

We set up an adjustable angle vise to 45 degrees and are going to mill a 45 degree spot on the edge of the Adjuster Plate that mounts above the upper ring. The End Clamps that attach to the CF vanes can then be adjusted to parellal.

Hi Preston:

The adjuster plate seems awfully long just to adjust the vanes to parallel. Is there some other reason that they are so long? The adjustment mechanism seems very complicated for that functionality also.

Still curious,

Michael

It may have been covered. But any info on how this attaches to the mount? Or even what mount it's going on?

This I think is going on a Paramount ME...

And the mount will be something that will allow sliding it
to the balance point and then bolting it solidly to the mounting plate...hopefully a Paramount Versa Plate...

We have programed the lightening 4 times today and each time something is wrong

I want to run a short demo to be sure what the orientation of the blank is but have yet to produce the correct code

Hopefully tomorrow will give use some better results...

Best Regards,

Preston
