Autostar II star hunting new
      #2688475 - 10/09/08 04:12 AM

When you are looking for a star, I know you can scroll thru the list from A-Z and that you can also do so in both directions.

-BUT- can you hit a shortcut key to find say, P for Polaris or something like that? Thereby not having to scroll so far before finding your target object?

Excellent question. I'd like to know if it exists too.

In the meanwhile, here's what I do...
OBJECT MENU....SS...STAR..(If you know the Hipparcos, SAO, HD & HR Cat No. enter it. Star Catalog can be accessed by pressing the Number 6 key also.

Or..

OBJECT MENU....SS....CONSTELLATION...there are 88 Constellations....chose the constellation the star is in and press...ENTER ...GOTO. Press GOTO again and in the second line of the LCD the brightest star of the constellation shows up. Press GOTO again and the scope slews to the star.
I know...it's tedious....but I'm accustomed to it by now.

You can also write your own TOUR using a text editor and goto the names of the stars you want to view for that night and change them as necessary.

I don't know if BROWSE would do it. I've never tried it. BROWSE allows you enter parameters and names etc.

I hope there is a simpler answer though.

I don't know. I never tried. I'm assuming you mean the other methods of alignment other that AutoAlign.

One of the more experience guys will chip in eventually.

Cheers.

No, when in that mode there's just a few keypresses that are allowed.

Well....from the lack of response, I'm guessing their is no short cut key. I was hoping there was from the manuals of the older models of LX's with GPS.
