Okie-Tex Fireball
      #2692987 - 10/11/08 01:39 PM Attachment (47 downloads)

I was there and saw this bollide. It truly did light up the observing field like it was a parking lot. Amazing.

Here's a photo of me and my new Obsession 18. Obsession delivered it to me at the Okie-Tex Star Party. The guy in the pink sweatshirt is my observing partner, gasgiant9, a/k/a Sir Barksalot.

You mean those things happen at Okie-Tex, like WUTS?

You two may end up blowing up the universe...

Congrats on the new light bucket.

Any guesses at what magnitude the meteor was?

Wow, not only did I miss one of the best star parties...but I missed that bolide (of course, I'd have been looking the other way). Great photo, thanks!

I was in the Starlight Cafe getting a snack. We could hear the Ohhs and Ahhs from inside. Someone came in and said that it lit up the whole place. Dang, I missed it too.

It was the spicy food they were serving. Really. Anyway, I was doing some wide field astrophotography and got lucky. I have a fairly decent photo of the bollide and will try and post it in the next few days.

Awh man the first yaer I haven't shown up is the last 4 and I missed it. Oh well got too busy with work this year. I hope you all had a great time. Beautiful scope.
Did you guys see the one in 2006 at Okie-Tex? It looked more like a satellite re-entry. I watched the ionization trail dissipate for over 30 minutes in my 14".
Calvin and I hope to see everybody next year,
Clear skies
