during alignment using 2 star option?
      #2694318 - 10/12/08 07:55 AM

Do I do a manual alignment (i.e. unlock the clutches on the RA and DEc and manually move th ota, or do i use the handbox. I could have sworn it said somewhere to do it manually and NOT use the handbox. Any clarification would be appreciated...

You leave them 'locked' and use the hand controller to center the alignment stars.

At least that's how it works for the LX90.

Mayhaps what you read was to use the handbox to manually, using the Arrow Keys, center the alignment stars. Once you start the alignment procedure do not unlock the RA or Dec. Iffen you do, during alignment or during the viewing session, you'll lose the alignment and have to re-align.

The only time to align by moving something mechanically instead of using the Autostar is to adjust the wedge for polar alignment. For alt az alignment, lock the axes at the beginning of your session and don't unlock them again until you have shut down for the night and are packing it up.
