Here is the Irish IYA 2009 page; we plan on being as involved as we possibly can in IYA activities.

Amateur astronomers all over this country will join in 100 Hours of Astronomy, and bring astronomy to the people.

Watch the website to see what we are doing in the build up to and during 2009.

Dee

Hi Dee!

You might be interested to know that 5 people from Ireland attended our “100 Hours” event in the Binghamton, NY area. They were visiting their US relatives and the American part of the family took them to our event at Kopernik Observatory (www.kopernik.org). I had a discussion with them about the Earle of Ross’s great 19th century 72-inch telescope at Birr Castle. They highly encouraged me to visit and view the refurbished telescope. I’ve put it on my travel wish-list!

Hi George N

The Irish IYA 2009 is now on Twitter
https://twitter.com/astronomy2009ie
so you can follow up dates easy.

At our event in Glendalough on April 4th I had two Native Americans visit my telescope and check out the moon. :-)

They were from Lakota Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota in the USA . We had 210 visitors to the park for a joint 100 Hours / Saturn Observation Campaign viewing.

I am going to Birr this Friday May 15th to do a moon drawing workshop in the village. I will also be visiting the Castle for a meeting, always worth a visit.
