This is a fresh restart of the older (and much longer) thread for posting ads that involve the sale of vintage/antique scopes.
A few reminders :
1) do not post your own ads or the ads of your friends. This is considered sale promotion in the open forums and this is a violation of the CN TOS. Please post such ads in the S&S forum or the CNC.
2) do not post photos from ads unless you have the permission of the person who took the photo. If you must have some reference to the photo in the post, then post a link to the photo, not the photo itself.
3) do not post the entire ad text (or large blocks of it) without permission from the author.
4) try to concentrate on the item for sale and not the seller.
5) Buyer beware - there are some scams floating around, so do your homework before pursuing any ad.
6) CN is in no way responsible for the content of these linked ads.
For reference purposes, here is a link to the original thread :

OK, here is the scam, I just received this from him today:
I want you to know that my Celestron telescope it's in great condition... Unfortunately for the moment I am outside of my state for the next 3 months due to my new working contract, but that's not going to be a problem because I can still handle the transaction. When I've received this working contract in Florida, I've decided to leave the telescope along with other 13 items in the custody of The Online Outpost because in case we'll agree to close the transaction they will take care of all the arrangements.. This is a company recommended by eBay and also by Craigslist, they will give you the chance to inspect the telescope before I receive the payment for it.
If you are interested to purchase my telescope please feel free to mail me for more information regarding the transaction terms...there will be also a return policy included.
Thanks,
-Craig

As we all thought, it was a scam. Its getting pretty easy to tell though, so its almost no big deal anymore, Rich

Rich,
As much as the scammer deserves it, I removed his email address from your post to put it in compliance with the TOS.
These guys never give up do they? With the amount of time and effort they put into running their scams, they could go out and get an honest job.
Regards and clear skies,
MikeG

Thanks Mike: It is always the same story. One would think that by now, they would try something besides "I am on a ranch in Canada", or "I'm out of state on Business". How 'bout this: 'I'm going to jail for tax fraud and I need some cash for the prison commissary'. At least its a different story. They must get some takers, otherwise I would think that they'd give up by now..

They do make it easy to spot, but there not as much fun to play as the email scams are. I had one play for three weeks then he got wise. Jerry

While browsing the listings for the Phoenix, Arizona Craigslist, I happened to notice a listing for a FREE 1960's Sears Discoverer 2.4-inch F/15 equatorial refractor telescope with wooden storage chest. The ad was posted on October 13, 2008, and the listing number is:
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/pho/878123387.html
(I am not the giver of the telescope.)
I don't think that this one will last too long at that price.

While browsing the advertisements for the Boise, Idaho Craigslist, I happened to notice a listing for what is described as a 10-inch Cassegrain reflector telescope. The ad was posted on October 6, 2008, and the listing number is:
http://boise.craigslist.org/pho/868821084.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
Is the optical tube assembly a put-together from parts, a Cave Astrola, or possibly a Star Instruments? To me the mounting looks undersized compared to the huge OTA. WHAT IS THIS?

I POST THIS WITH MUCH RESERVATION AS I COLLECT THIS BRAND OF VINTAGE REFRACTOR TELESCOPE. HOWEVER, I ALREADY HAVE MANY 60 MM SCOPES FROM SIMILAR MANUFACTURERS IN MY COLLECTION, SO HERE WE GO.
While browsing the Craigslist advertisements for Tucson, Arizona, I happpened to see a posting for what appears to be a circa 1960's complete 2.4-inch Vixen or ATCO brand equatorial refractor telescope. (Because of the exceptional layout, I hope to use this in a future astronomy club publication.) There is a metal tag on the wooden storage chest, so positive identification from an interested buyer would be quick.
The ad was posted on October5, 2008, and the listing number is:
http://tucson.craigslist.org/clt/867560667.html (I am not the seller of the scope, but sure wish I was in Tucson so I could purchase it directly!)
Comments? What brand is this one? I had a virtually identical 3-inch model with a focal length of 1,250mm that was marked "Vixen" on the focuser.

THIS IS ANOTHER ONE THAT I LIST WITH SOME TREPIDATION. (If it was a 6-inch I would contact the seller at once.)
While browsing the Craigslist advertisements for the New Hampshire Craigslist, I happened to notice a listing for a vintage (1960s) Optical Craftsmen 4.25-inch RFT (rich field telescope). The ad was posted on October 13, 2008, and the listing number is:
http://nh.craigslist.org/sys/878245869.html (I am not the seller of the telescope.)
To my knowledge these are as scarce as hen's teeth.

I know that these are fairly rare and I don't know how desirable they are by Tasco collectors.

Anyone know about when these were made? Balscope 10 I have one of these, and the Balscope 20. My specimens are quite nice with good optics. The only shortcoming of the Balscope 10 is not having any tripod mount. (Although I'm sure if Preston had one he'd make a mount out of a bar of soap and toothpaste. )

All you need is some JB Weld and a 1/4 X 20 nut!
I used to own a Balscope 10.... in the Mid to late 60s?

I've been emailing the seller for a few days asking if shipping would be agreeable. Sadly, haven't received a reply yet. When I stare at the label on the box, and *BLEEP* my head to the left about 30 degrees, I quite clearly see Tasco...maybe.
