Well maybe i over reacted but there have been a bunch of e-bay ads in the past year. it involves hijacking someones id and going for buy it now sales. They also use a photo that isn't theirs. Well it is possible that this is this gentleman's Pentax in this photo..... But he would have had to drive up from Florida to LI and sneak into my backyard to photgraph his Pentax. Here is a photo of my Pentax in my backyard.

If it isn't a scam, the guy still shouldn't be posting photos that fool people into believing that it is the product. Are the other two photo's of his scope???? Who knows? If you can't trust him with the first image why should he be trusted with the description of the scope. Is there even a scope? How come he just doesn't take a picture of his own scope and post it? Too many questions, I don't trust it.

I agree with you Brian. Why post pictures of a scope you don't own and try to sell it? The seller has to know that the photo isn't his - smells fishy to me.

I'm thinking this is a consignment. The seller has been a member for 2 years and is 100% positive, I don't think they would knowingly risk all that. Happy-Idiot, did you contact that seller and told him that he has used your photo?

I saw that, but don't know much about cats. Interesting wording in the description: "professional packaging materials to ensure the item arrives with you undamaged."

Apparently you haven't heard of the new Bachelor of Arts in packaging. It is highly recommended that one Minor in Peanuts and Popcorn. They must not have that yet in Michigan.

Indeed, one does not become a packaging technician overnight. You must learn all the different materials of packaging, the difference between corn-based and artificial peanuts and how they are to be aligned, the difference between air-spaced and cemented bubble wrap, how to Zydeco-test the cardboard, and perhaps the most difficult part of the job, how to read the postage chart. Once you've learned all that, THEN you can begin your 5-year apprenticeship.

Not yet, i was afraid he would ask me for more pictures. He also stole my description of the focuser and lens from my CN's classified ad HERE ."Besides the optics being of quality the focuser is just as impressive, it is extremely smooth and well built, way ahead of its time." That is word for word what i wrote, wow i wonder if he even looked through the scope, copy, click, and paste, what a wonderful way to describe the scope you are selling.
I will ask him later tonight, and let you know what he/she said? I am an easy going guy, that is why i am not upset, but i just wanted to protect my fellow CN's members from buying a beat up damaged scope. The other two pictures may not be his either.

Wow, and what's even more weird is that when I clicked on the link yesterday, I could have sworn I landed on an ebay auction for a Unitron!
I must be crackin' up.

Scout72:
That appears to be an old scope intended to track satellites. I think it was intended to take advantage of the excitement of Operation Moonwatch/Project Moonwatch. That makes this something from around 1956 - 1957. 1957 was known as International Geophysical Year (IGY) and was probably one of the largest scientific undertakings that involved the public. When professional manned tracking began in 1958 the programs importance began to wane.
Every once in a while the "official" scopes that were offered by Edmund and others show up. I have never seen this one and it may be quite rare. Not a lot of the others are to be found any more. After the program came to an end many of the scopes were turned into finder scopes and the bases were tossed into the trash.
That's my take on it.

Hey guys, Check this out for 50 bucks. Looks to be something possibly worth $50. Here is the link. 8 inch Newt. Could it be an old Criterion? Someone must have a clue. What about the mount? It looks familiar. Rich
