Here's a novel way to treat a telescope drive. It has weathered many a storm and observing session.

What a great mount restoration! The combo must be very effective and stable.

Thanks Jeff. Old man Byers made 100 of these and it is a really nice work of art. Very light and can hold 100 pounds without a problem. The 6" F15 Was built buy the imfamous John Pons that many folks know and love. The mount laughs at the little scope. I think Ed Byers designed the 812 to do this hold your 1965 cave at 2 arc seconds or so!! I have been able to pull off a 3 minute photo with it! Clear skys and Keep posting those old mounts I love looking at them!! Caveman Clint Whitman

Here is my Astro-Physics Mach1 GTO mount that I use primarily for astrophotography. Rock solid and ridiculously low periodic error. Best of all, it fits in the two-seater so I don't need to drive the mini van on those precious nights when I drive up into the mountains!

As well as my "grab 'n go" mount--a Takahashi Teegul SP on a light weight, wooden tripod. I may need to upgrade the tripod a bit sometime. This one is just a little bit too light, and vibration takes a full three seconds to damp. With something a bit sturdier I could probably take that to under two seconds.

It's not as nice as some of these other mounts, but this one is mine, and I love it!

Hey, Jared...that Vixen/Mach I sure is a pretty setup. The white scope just sets off the beautiful finish of the AP.

Hi folks:

It took me a while, but I finally got my Sidereal Technology goto kit installed in my pre-goto Takahashi EM-500 mount. With help from another member of the SiTech yahoo group, I swapped the 10:1 gear reducers on the Pittman servo motors with a 60:1 for the RA axis and a 20:1 for the dec (the 10:1 seemed to slip on RA, drew too much amperage, and got too warm).

The drive is absolutely silent while running (I can't even hear it when I put my ear against the mount). Due to the reduction, it's audible when slewing in RA, but dec still is hard to hear. I've got both axes set to slew at 3 degrees/sec, which seems fast enough to be having that OTA swinging around in the dark, for me.

Here's a pic, taken with my cell phone, of my 12.5" f/23 Cassegrain (Enterprise Optics = Ed Beck) on it.

Here is a backyard view of my ORION Atlas EQ-G non-goto mount and the C-11 scope it came with. It doesn't have many miles on it...but the observatory set-up should now change that!!!

this is my new pier mount with a cg-5 head. i had it made at a welding shop, total cost $95 not including the wheels. it has 2 1/4" legs and the pier is 4" with a adjustable inner steel pipe. cart wheels and adjustable levelers on each leg. solid as a rock. i have a smaller one but it could not handle too much weight. this one really fills the bill. don

Here's what's in the recently finished observatory, built mostly for solar work. A Meade LXD650 driven by The Sky 6.0.

Yes, I know it's a bit overloaded . . . it's on the list!

Regards, Marc
