I was wondering if anyone here is a member of the Miami Valley Astronomical Society or lives in the Dayton/Cincinnati area. I'm moving there next summer and I'm curious what (if any) observing sites are available. I know that the Miami Valley website lists an observatory, but it's in an orange area on the Clear Sky Clock website's light pollution map. How's the seeing? I'm afraid I've become spoiled with West Texas skies.

I think the best you can do in SW Ohio is greenish. Lots of people and cities and highways and pole-lights.

Wes,
Welcome to the neighborhood!
I'm a member of MVAS and we do observe from our Observatory located in John Bryan State Park. The skies are pretty good, however, they wont be as dark as Texas.
We also observe from the Caesar Creek State Park.
The Cincinnati club has a dark site, however, I have not been too it.

Hey Physik, Hate to see you leave. I know you're going to miss our dark skies around here. But from the sounds of things, there are a lot of folks in Ohio to make you feel welcome.
You keep in touch here on CN..

Fred: Thank you! It’s good to know that I’ll still be able to use my telescopes when I move I’m excited and I look forward to getting involved with the MVAS once I get settled.
Dewayne, I’m seriously going to miss these skies. I’ve seen things down here that I never imagined I would be able to see. Luckily, my parents live in the boonies in SW Virginia, so when I go home to visit for Christmas or something like that…its pure, dark skies for me

Haha, finally realized you guys were talking about a different MVAS. There are in fact two MVAS's in Ohio... The other one is the Mahoning Valley Astronomical Society!
