Hi all,
Seeing was better in the early morning hours today and I was able to do some higher resolution imaging with the OMC300. I posted one litely processed image of Theophilus to the lunar observing forum for those that are interested:

Here is an image of Tycho taken the same imaging session as the preceeding, with the OMC300...

A point of clarification about the F5 focal reducer.... one was listed as being available here:
http://www.opticstar.com/Run/Astronomy/Astro-Telescopes-OrionOptics.asp?s=d75a96de-ed1e-4921-93a4-f1697cf335&p=0_10_1_5_5
However, when I tried to order one from Orion Optics I was told that the factory isn't making them but they are trying to find a third party product for me that hopefully will work...

Amazing shot! I'm glad you're finally getting the seeing conditions needed to really see what that thing will do.
I like the open tube design of that scope. I've never seen a scope with the corrector plate on the secondary. It's a clever design.

Tom,
Thanks ! It has taken quite a lot of time to get used to using this telescope properly because it will really only perform well in excellent seeing which is very uncommon in my area.
THe focus point for imaging is set by the factory and is quite far from the back of the telescope, at least from my point of view. If no diagonal is used (and I don't like to use one because it is another source of collimation error and puts extra glass between the moon and the CCD chip) then I have to use THREE 2 inch extension tubes to achieve focus. The combined length of these three tubes is 15.8 cm. This assumes that I am using the JMI EVcm-1 focuser which I purchased separately as an upgrade to the factory Crayford focuser. The setup shown below is necessary to achieve focus of lunar features and it shows just how far back the focus point is set at the factory ! Of course the telescope does not come with these extension tubes and I had to get them from third party vendors. See the attached image of the setup...

Here is another image of Tycho taken in average seeing conditions (but without frost on the secondary as I think was the case with my earlier posting of Tycho) taken with the OMC300 on December 8, 2008. A one point alignment and very light processing was done.

Here is an image of Gassendi taken with the OMC300 and Lumenera 075M camera on December 8, 2008 at 2215 UT in 4 to 5 out of 10 seeing conditions and very cold weather.

For those that might be interested, here is an image of Clavius from December 8, 2008 made with the OMC300 and Lumenera 075M camera. Seeing was about 1 arc second.

Ted,
Some years ago I lived near the Finger Lakes in upstate NY so I know what you mean about the snow shovel...
You must get phenomenal views and images with your 25 inch scope... I've often thought about the results Wes Higgins gets with his 18 inch Starmaster and I must admit that I have sometimes lusted after one... but then reality sets in and I realize that I have not mastered the smaller apertures yet... and the seeing at my site is almost always poor.
(Still, a few years ago I looked through a 25 inch Obsession and have never forgotten the views of the moon and some well known galaxies... but I also remember that it was no easy chore to get the scope set up and stand on a ladder to use it
