I am not affiliated with the seller in any way. It's just something my eBay alerts dumped in my inbox this morning.
If that slab of Fukang isn't good enough to impress, then maybe the wooly mammoth tusk or antique samurai sword is. (the seller's other items)
BTW, if anyone wants to get me a Xmas present - a $50,000 gift certificate to this guy's eBay store would be the perfect stocking stuffer!

Hi All,
In case you're interested, here is a pic of the main mass of Fukang with it's owner Marvin Kilgore.
For more info on the attempt to sell this masterpiece, read more here: Fukang
I took this pic when Marvin was giving me a tour of the University of Arizona's Southwest Meteorite Center during one of the Tucson Shows.

Martin,
I have a question. How does an American go to China and bring home a giant meteorite like this? Did he purchase it from the owner or the Chinese government? And, did he run into any hassles trying to get it out of the country?
I saw another photo of this giant slice once, where he was holding it up outside in the daylight and it was breath-taking.
Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
MikeG

Hi Mike,
Very good question. However, I won't be the one to answer it as the tale of Fukang has more than a few twists and turns including a scrap between some US dealers leading to a few friendship wounds rarely but still drip a few drops of bad blood on the meteorite scene.
Here are some links to shed more darkness on the whole thing:
http://six.pairlist.net/pipermail/meteorite-list/2006-January/019684.html
If you want to listen to Marvin talk about the Fukang and the SWMC, here is an interview with him on NPR. Just click the link with the appropriate software installed:

Also, the photo you might be referring to is posted on the NPR site

Interesting stuff. Beginning to visualize those in the business as real life Indiana Joneses.
Thanks for the links.
Now, know how to pronounce Fu-Kang.
