What Astro League lists have you completed?
      #27757 - 12/11/03 12:19 PM

Hey All,

I have been working on the Messier and Double Star ones. I was just curious which ones you guys out there have done or are working on...

I am sort of working on the Messier list. I have observed a couple of open clusters but have not done much more. I still need a planisphere and a star chart. I can't use Sky and Telescopes interactive chart because of computer issues

I've completed the Earth Orbiting Satellite and Lunar awards. I'm almost finished with the Double Star and Urban Deep Sky awards and I'm over 50% complete with both the Messier and Binocular Messier awards.

If the clouds don't go away soon I may never get any of them completed.

As this counts, I've done the Lyra Planetary Nebulae Award, and the Hercules Globular Clusters List Award. And watch out, there's more of them than most people think.

I don't work on a list but try to see all the Messier objets I have not seen yet. However I can't care less than about open clusters so they are usually left behind.

I'm trying to view the Messier list. I have 15 to date. The way the weather has been I may never see another.

Rick, you're farther along than I am. It's kind of tough to see stuff when there are big, grey things always getting in the way!

How is that 114GT working for you? Dropped mine off of my workbench the other day and scratched up the tube. The mirror is ok but the tube has been marked! I can't believe I was that careless. I'm making new wooden legs for the tripod.

Living, I'm working on the Messier list but then I'm going to have to start it all over again because not only will I forget where all of them are BUT I hardly know what a star looks like anymore here. Like Tom, big gray things and most of them are leaking either wet stuff or white stuff. LarryC

Believe me when I say I know where you are coming from. The weather here has been nasty, it's nasty right now, and it's going to stay nasty for aleast a week. Tom, the Nexstar is great. Being new to all of this I'm sure it has it's shortcomings but I love it. A lot better than the 60mm refractor I bought first. How are you gonna replace the legs with wooden ones? I assume you are just replacing the legs only, correct? I'm gonna pull mine out of the closet and take a look at that. I'm constantly afraid of dropping mine or even bumping it. I guess it's a little tougher than I thought.

Hey Rick, they're pretty tough! I will remove the aluminum legs and I'm building some pretty stout oak ones. I'll post them when I'm done (probably over the Xmas break).

Larry, one day I will realize just how accident prone I really am! So far, nothing that couldn't be fixed (knock on wood!).

Getting snow on, huh! I wish it would do that here!

Thanks Tom, I look forward to seeing those. I've never really thought about it but now I'm curious. I may take a look at my tripod over the next rainy week. And also I just became a supermember.

Rick,

I think the alum legs are ok for the 114 scope, I believe it only weighs about 4 pounds. I have my SV 80/9d on my tripod and it (along with the diag) is about 10 pounds. Really taxes the legs and the view can be a bit jittery when focusing. It is really nice to have the controls to move the scope once focus is acheived (helps keep the object in view).
