IYA2009 in Michigan
      #2782385 - 12/02/08 02:39 PM

Having a central place for posting activities and information seems like a good idea, so here’s a start for Michigan.

The University of Michigan is having a theme semester winter term in conjunction with IYA, so we have a lot planned Jan - April. The theme semester got its start with the reception for the mural Meanwhile More Light on the Dennison windows. Among the events planned are open houses, new courses, several lecture series, special music and theater programs, and tours and presentations in Second Life. The official theme semester website is http://www.lsa.umich.edu/universe/ .

Many organizations in Michigan have also joined together to form a website with information and a calendar for astronomy events in Michigan. That website is http://www.astromichigan.org

I know the Kalamazoo club has some big plans, but they haven't been set in stone as of yet.

I am in the process of setting up a Flickr group for IYA2009, so people from all over can post their images of events, etc.

We are working on our events for Fox Park Observatory (near Lansing) including getting high speed internet for the 100 Hours project. Once finalized, I will add them to the list.
