YIPPEEE!! First light with my modded XT!! new
      #2842182 - 01/04/09 02:47 AM Attachment (43 downloads)

I am sooo pleased with the results and yes people, doing the mod was soo worth it! 12 X 5 min lights, 15 Flats, 15 darks, 15 Bias. Stacked using DSS and minimal curves and noise reduction with PS CS3. This is a quick and dirty processing but I was so happy with it I wanted to share

That's a great image, I wish I had better seeing and a darker site.

Sorry I didn't put that in with the rest of the data. I used an Orion ED80, William Optics .8 FR/FF II, Autoguided with a piggybacked ST80, DSIPro and PHD. Mount is an LXD75. Thanks for the compliment hockey

OH Yeah!! While out there I wanted to see the difference a modded cam would do on M42 so I shot this 5 min exposure. Just a 5 min exposure with a burnt out core but...This shows potential Took it just before packing up.

Well, I reside about 15 minutes from Philadelphia and to get these results, I traveled about 25 miles south east towards the pine barrons. This is what an unprocessed 5 minute shot looks like. When viewing this from the camera preview lcd window I honestly didn't think I was going to capture that much detail do to the sky fog and an almost quarter moon present. The flats, darks and bias definitely helped I think. Once DSS did it's thing, I opened up the tiff in CS3 hoping that my imaging session was not a lost cause. I neutralized the sky background, adjusted the levels and curves to find stacked image would not require a whole lot of processing. I'm sure another hour of exposure time and a moonless night would have probabably yeilded much better results. Cheers!

Is that a single 5 minute exposure ? ISO setting ?
Just GREAT !
Love to see more of your captures ! Keep 'em coming.

Thanks! ISO was set at 800 btw. I modded my cam November 4th and due to the weather, family matters and schedule, I hadn't had the chance up until now. I showed my fiance the processed image and she asked me, "so when are we headed back out to Cherry Springs PA? ".

Nice work, there certainly is a difference. Not sure I'd want to travel to CSSP in the winter.. it would be awfully cold and your scopes would likely frost up (often very humid there).

Thanks Andrew, yeah CSSP can be rather harsh even in the autumn. I just wish I could rent something near Wharton St forest so I could leave the rig unattende for hours while keeping myself busy instead of sitting in a car in the middle of nowhere with the heat cranked.

Very nice image!! I can't wait to see it after you've processed it 20 or 30 times..

That's the difference... My WIFE would say, nice, when are you leaving?

I had to laugh when I read that, seems I have taken my best images in that exact situation

Congrats on the successful mod and great image! My self modded XT will be for sale as I just picked up a Huctech XS and gave my XSI to my Daughter for Xmas.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Well, after tweaking the final (20 or so) images, I came up with this. I need to figure out how to get rid of that amp glow on the lower right hand corner though. Take care all.
