I need recomendations of WEB cam... new
      #285671 - 12/19/04 08:35 AM

Hi to all. I am the owner of celestron Nextar 11 GPS telescope with XLT coatings. And I want to buy a Web Camera for CCD imaging.
What are your recommendations? What is the best Web Camera that is suitable for my Nextar?
What about the quality of pictures taken by using such cameras?

Thank You all in advance.

Modified Toucam Pro's seem to be the webcam of choice no matter what scope you have, but maybe there is something better that one of the other guys can recommend.

Wait a second are you saying that you invested 3000 in your scope and now you want to invest 100 in your camera? That combo doesnt work. You should go for a better camera; I would recommend a canon 300D.

While I have a 300D and enjoy using it for DSO shots, a webcam gives a much more appropriate image scale for planets.

Since you are from Europe, take a look at:

- ATIK long exposure webcams = 279 - 499 EUR
(http://www.atik-instruments.com)

- Meade Deep Sky Imager (DSI) = 395 EUR

- and of course Canon EOS300D = around 850 EUR

Ditto what John said. The ability to capture 1000 frames in a couple of minutes, without mirror slap, makes webcams far superior to DSLRs for planetary (not full disk solar or lunar) imaging.
