I don't normally look to Scope City for unusual deals, but these used to go for a grand. I had one a few years ago and it was RAZOR sharp. The nifty pivot type mount was simple and effective, the hefty surveyers tripod had a nice leather strap to keep the legs together, a soft case for the tube, and the 16mm Ortho included is the very same from the range that fetch up to 200 bucks alone. 549 bucks is a good price if they are issue-free.
Warning: there was no way a prism would work with the limited focus range, and even Zeiss' own 4mm Ortho was close to being not quite there in focus.

That is a sweet deal if the instrument is in great condition as stated.

It would be great to "borrow" the Zeiss 63mm/420mm objective and make an ultra fine grab-n-go scope or travel scope.
I do that often with my scopes but only borrow.... not cannibalize!

Uh, like the furniture in my house is antique, not antiqued.

If you keep a stack of old Orion catalogs in your bathroom, you might be an astro-redneck.

Well I couldn't help myself, I had to order one. I see that Markus Ludes is now selling the Orthos for $260 each. I will give a full report on the optical quality here.

I had one of these for a night, a Lender. I was not to choked up over the color it had on Jupiter. But like the add says it was great for scaningaround the MW. Its a focal length thing. But like Doug said one day the eyepiece will be worth $550....
