Hi all.. We were recently given an old DS-114AT that came with an Autostar 494 controller. When we hooked the 494 up to our (old) ETX-90, it complained about wanting a "ETX Autostar". If we upgrade the firmware on the 494, will it be able to work with the ETX-90? Hate to spend the money on a 506 cable kit to find out it won't work. TIA

Others will know for sure, but I don't think you can upgrade the firmware on the 494; only object data, like tours, comets, etc..

That's right. There never have been any firmware updates available for the 494. You can use a 497 with a 494 scope, but NOT vice-versa.

The firmware in the #494 is not upgradable. If the scope you have is not in the data set then you can't use it. You should be able to find a #497 on EBay for about $100. You can also use a #495 with the latest firmware update which essentially converts a #495 into a #497 controller.
Just for yucks I'll check what my #494 says the next time I have my ETX-60BB set up as it has a #494 installed on it. The ETX-60BB uses a slightly different mount than the 90 so I wouldn;t be surprised if it would work on the ETX-60/70 but not on the 90/105/125.

The 494 works on the etx70 and on the DS, but will not work on the catadioptric etx's AT and newer. Not sure about the first generation of etx cats.
