Somthing is pretty big over there in that box.......
This lens and its cell is ginormous....
10" of clear aperture glass in a honkin huge cell...with the cell adapter to screw the cell into...Sweet!
Here are some preliminary photos of the lens and cell

Lens/cell on edge so you can see the threads that run into the cell/tube adapter.
I will machine the tube adapter to fit my 12" tube and then bolt it in...and sinply screw the objective into it....

And finally one with the tube adapter slighty crewed onto the cell.....
I am so pumped up......I'll need to run to my cousins and throw the adapted on the big lathe and machine down the leading edge...so it will slide into the 12" tube at about 11 6/8th.
Now we are playing.....

Whoa! That's some glass.
I don't see coatings on the lens? It could be my monitor.
Congratulations.

Rob...Is that a hint you want $10 for that lens? Or am I to suppose if it were a mere 8" you'd have an $8 bill sitting there? God your driving me insane here! Mike

Glen..it's not coated. The abount of light loss due to reflection is so minimal..it's nealy uncoucuable.
My 6"f/15 Devany objective isn't coated..and It provides the best images I have ever seen....ever.
Now it has some competition......

LOL Sounds like your insanity is self induced my friend.
Actually..I over paid for the scope and lens and the seller refunded me a 10 spot. It was available and quite recognizable for a reference marker.
I test fit the tube adapter and I will have to remove just under an 1/8" of material from the second stage in the incromental step up of the adapter.
Once done...it will slip in the tube...get bolted in and the lens will simply screw into it. I will then fashion a dew cap from sheet metal(well actually have that done)..and that will fit right over the incromental lip just outside/oposite the threaded part for the lens.
It will work out perfectly. Now a quick ray trace of the new light cone to get the exact FL..and then I can cut the tube to the right length (now that will be fun)

Probably just over 200lbs.
Thanks......I have to run and finish painting the new 5" spotter mounting and get it ready to mount.
I'm glad I added the extra spotter and mount....I'm gonna need the weight. The lens/cell and adapter weigh about 52 lbs alone.....
I might forego adding the forward counterweight system till I have everything put together.

And then this pretty cool picture of the whole OTA.....
Now you can see the Star Trek feeling I tried to incorporate into the design.
Definately NOT your run of the mill refractor system.
You can almost hear Kirk order *fire Photon torpedos*.......
Apart from some minor design modifications and the usual rigidity testing...I'm now prepared to begin the objective and tube adapter modifications.
I need to go over to my cousins shop and work on the 17" newtonian fork mount anyway...so I'll chuck up the adapter and turn off the excess......
Right now I had better check up on Droids mirror.
I know not vary many folks like my designs and prefer more *Typical* *classic* looking scopes. But I think I'm on to something...if not for simply...for myself.
Thanks for peekin in.

Are you in love with that scope or what!?!? Well that's a dumb question Mike how dense can I be! You'll never sell it...it'll be like your other "green machine". I'll never sell mine....that you can bet your sweet "bippy" on. Mike

Nah...I'm not in love with the scope...just the feeling of making it...and yes it is for sale.....but will it actuall sell.....who knows...but I will surely enjoy it while I can. And if that is for the next 10 years then so be it.
But I promissed my wife..I'd sell it. However it will probably have a different objective by the time that day comes. Who knows.
As long as my wife knows I'm selling it...I'm safe. Will it actually sell...who knows. That is the gamble I'm taking.
Is that bad.....I don't know..but I ain't gonna just sit on it while I wait for Mr. right to come along. I mean..what's the market for a custom made...one of a kind...10"f/15 refractors...
As long as I have breath...I'm working on it and will begin another one when it is finished.
Rob(probably a freek)

Pretty cool looking spaceship you have there. Can't wait to see your scope too.
Is the mount going to be as flashy as the scope?
