Every year my favorite astro shop here in France has a last years stock sale, this year what caught my eye was this Vixen Ark 12x80 BCF big binocular that sold for 499 euros, is now on sale for 260 euros. I looked into Starware, and here on CN trying to find any reviews on these binos but to no luck. Any of you out there familiar with these??? I'm thinking these Vixens might be a really good deal ! Thanks in advance for any info. Shawn

Shawn,
I have noticed those on the Vixen website and have wondered about those myself. I have not looked thru the 12x80, but I am VERY impressed with my Vixen 7x50 Forestas. So much so that I would not hesitate to buy another Vixen product. If you are getting it at a really good price, I say go for it.

There should be some info on this forum on the higher-power 80mm Vixen ARK's. I'm betting if you search for "ARK" over the last 2-3 years you'll find some useful info.

The Vixen Ark series have received mixed reviews on this forum. There are a least 4 reviews in the mini review section. Go to the mini review section and scroll down to Vixen and you'll fine them. Bino Mini revews
I would say there has been more negative reports than positive. Some collimation issues. I would say check one out if possible. If not I would look for something else.
12X80 binos have 6.66mm exit pupil. Most people prefer high power 16X80 or 20X80s with 4 or 5 mm exit pupil these days. Darker sky background and bigger image scale.

On the other hand if you have a penchant for cluntering big binoculars with large exit - pupils you may well be better off considering a 10 x 80 , a configuration which seems only ever to have been produced in higher quality instruments than the Vixen Arc series .
