heaviest snows here yestarday in London for 18 years [8" in the backyard] but little greenhouse heater, protecting the LX200 CB form condensation, melted it from the little dome by this morning

Awesome picture! I heard that much of London was shutdown because of the snow.
Did you dig the path to your observatory before, or after, digging one from your front door to the street? (Just checking on your priorities. )

The rarity of snow in London means there are NO snow-clearing vehicles available and even I don't have any high boots

Haven't cleared the front path - only the back path leading to the car - hopefully to use tomorrow weather willing
Here's my vid of the snowscenes today

I tried to get out and do some observing clear sky, looked outside and its seems to be early evening. The LP here in sheffield is lighting up the snow and as a result the sky a treat. I'd imagine it being even worse in London.

"Vile" comes to mind and non-astronomers around cities are bragging about "this weird and wonderful light" eg multiple backscatter from snow to cloudbase like an orange twilight throughout the whole night. Last night cloudless and 'glow' gone visually but my astro-cam fogs in 30 seconds exposure just like 'normal' here abouts and the reason I can't use colour at night for imaging

Hi Maurice, Well here in NE Lincs we had only a minor dusting of snow Monday followed by rain, rain rain.
I was interested in your comment regarding a greenhouse heater in the dome preventing condensation, I've been looking around at the electric tube style ones and considering getting one for my observatory, are they effective without compromising scope cool down times etc. ? If possible could you please let me know what type of heater you have and it's power rating if you have it.
Many thanks, Andy

Here in Finland, the 8" comes during one blizzard and it happens once or twice in winter. Opposite side of my home street lives one important city officer, so the street is one of the first to be cleaned. Normaly I can drive to work at same morning. Of course I have to clean my own yard first. I have seen pictures from Norway when there have come 80" at one time and people have to use the upstairs windows to get out.

I cannot never quite reach high enough to brush off all the snow on the top of my 7' dome after a storm. I have learned to always leave the scope cover on when I open the top since ice/snow chunks tend to fall in. Also, I use my snowblower to cut a 300ft path to my observatory. Someone needs to invent a retractable dome sweeper...

Steve:
Go out and buy a telescoping POOL BRUSH .. in the summer I use the brush in the pool in the winter I use it to brush the snow off the top of the observatory... Not expensive, will last 20 years PLUS they work...

Hi Andy - I think it's a 100w with thermostat from B&Q DIY - will check when I open-up the dome when snow goes Have loose plastic cover over scope to protect it when opening shutter and partially trap the heat around the scope - can't afford another main CB loss through condensation

Bob, great idea on the pool brush. I may even have a old one in the garage. Thanks!
