Hello xcy ,

The ones I have arrived properly aligned only for a user with an IPD narrower than mine .

I've mentioned this before on this forum with no - one disputing it , and have read similar stories about so many different models that I guess it's the " norm " for these less expensive Chinese giants .

As with ALL binoculars , mine is just a single sample / specimen though , and I don't think it's very wise to base an opinion of ANY model on ANYONE'S comments and reviews based upon ONE specimen .

I've seen enough variation in optical quality between different specimens of " identical " spotting scopes costing ten times more than the price of these binoculars .

Based upon my experiences with all the binoculars I currently own , and a good few others , I would say these are NOT GREAT binoculars .

Indeed , they were actually bought for me as a special gift , for which I am eternally and most genuinely grateful , but if I'd paid for them myself I would probably have sent them back .

The owner of Strathspey , John Burns , seems a very reasonable person to do busines with , and kudos to him for at least bringing affordable giant binoculars to Britain a few years after Kevin B. did for Americans via his Oberwerk corp .

The 20 x 90 never was amongst the most popular of Oberwerk models ( same model ) .

It's a bulky thing , but not too heavy considering , and in it's favour it does have generous eye - relief and TFOV not far from the advertised spec.

It's probably closer to 19 x 85 in reality , but certainly shows stars and other celestial details not seen in 15 x 70.

It performs much better masked down to 60mm in the daytime .

Definitely better than having no binoculars at all !

Good luck

Kenny

Having in mind that the Strathspey are considered to be better than average chinese binoculars, could any of their other models be better?

Considered better by WHOM ?

I'm not really aware of any in depth reviews of them !

It's been a while since I took a look at the Strathspey site , so don't know if John has stocked up with any of the more expensive , superior heavier duty models available under half a dozen other brand names .

I'm sure the higher priced Chinese binoculars will be worth paying the difference for .

I am convinced that the best 20x90 is the Helios Quantum-4 Series 20x90 It is the one that is of the family that Hallelujah and I like. It is of the same family that EDZ uses for his fixed magnification 25x100 binoculars.

I have been thinking of this magnification level, and the also good binoculars that Kenny alludes to would be Revelation 20x88 right angle binoculars. One of the finest fixed magnification binoculars is Giant 110mm Astro Binocular , that likely to the same as the Garrett Signature 20x110.

I have been wondering why not go the full way to the Binocular Telescope 100mm and get the 20x eyepieces. I could mask it down to 90mm or 80mm if I wanted to try that aperture! Money, money is a consideration!
Things to work for!
Rob.
