Tech2000 Autoguider
      #2913871 - 02/07/09 05:33 PM

There is a new autoguider from Tech2000: camera, telescope, software, cables, and a mini-mount. It has a 0.5° field of view and claims a 2 arcsec guiding accuracy. Has anyone tested this autoguider already? All for 299 US$

Interesting indeed. I gotta wonder if the mount can really hold it steadily enough for guiding, though. Darn good price at any rate, and it looks good.

I don't find the mounting or the parallel interface encouraging - but it looks as though both could be dispensed with. Solidly mounted, and with the guide connection made some other way, it is promising.

Except for the kind of simple mount it looks like a really nice system. I have the dobdrive from Tech2000, which works very well for my dobs.

By the way, is it possible to program the PEC on the CGEM with an autoguider? It is not really necessary, but would be a nice feature.

I've owned two of the DDII systems and I agree that they were a great value and very effective.

The other Celestron German EQ mounts I've owned permitted training PPEC via the AG port. I'm sure the CGEM will also (they all share common firmware).

Thank you for the input. I still could not test my mount. I am still waiting for the dovetail plates. I order from someone who makes them some custom-made for my equipment for really low price. He got the flu ... gotta wait...

That's not a parallel video interface like some of the old cams had, that's just a parallel/ST4 interface like Shoestring sells. Works fine.
