Thanks alot Steve. Thats what I was hoping to get away with. Even worse case scenario I could always shim under the Losmandy field tripod adapter. Ya know? As long as its as close to level as can be, what could be the problem?

OK,
You really do not need an Aluminum plate for putting the MA on top of your pier.
For me it is a mistery why he can not solder again the top palte onto the cut down pier tube. Well he must have his reasons.
The plates you see on top of my piers are all 1/2" iron plates and the treatment on it (yellow color) is cadminized ( a very good rust protective cover) which they still do here in Mexico. Thay also call it Tropicalize. One of those plates has been for maybe 2 years in a very humid climate in the tropics here in Mexico and not a single point of rust on the plate itself.
So for now I better shut up.
See you and again Apologies ...

Its ok Rainer. No apologies needed. Im just cranky 'cos I already feel like the dumbest person here that everyone tolerates because youre all so nice and kind.
Also, not understanding the simple things that people that have been around telescopes for a while know like the back of their hand is a little embarrassing too.
Everyone starts somewhere, I just happened to spend a week on the deck with my first scope, then jumped right into building an observatory, then head first into 'oooh, I want to take pictures too!'.
I blame DeanS! He built me up and made me feel smart and encouraged me to follow my dreams! Had he just not been so kind and ignored me when I asked him stupid questions about building an observatory, imaging, and what to buy id still be on the deck with the dob trying to figure out the S&T Sky Atlas!

And you would sitting up on the deck with a pocket full of money instead of a bunch of metal and glass
But what fun would that be anyways???

Rainer, the reason he can not reuse the metal top plate is that it will be warped when cut off with the torch. If he was to grind or cut it off without a torch then he would spend more time. Time is money and the metal shop decided it was quicker to just cut the tube and add a new top plate than to try and save the old one.
This will work fine as we will shim the MA adapter to level as needed.
I am so sure it will work well that I have a pier being extended with a steel tube and steel plate being welded to it instead of the alumin plate, and will bolt down my AP cup thingie to it as well.
Sometimes we all get caught up in seeing only one way to do things. Everyone has different experiences and opinions, which is a good thing to draw upon.
