M35 (NGC 2168) in Gemini new
      #2929150 - 02/15/09 12:40 PM Attachment (51 downloads)

I was able to observe the impressive open cluster M35 (NGC 2168) at the foot of Gemini on February 10, 2009 (01:45 U.T.) using my 9-inch (23-cm) F/13.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain at 97x under average seeing conditions (5/10). A multitude of stars were visible across the telescopic field. This open cluster was discovered by the French astronomer Philippe Loys de Cheseaux (1745-46) and later catalogued by Charles Messier. M35 lies at a distance of approximately 2,800 light-years and contains hundreds of stars over the diameter of the Moon (30 arc-minutes). This cluster contains main sequence (e.g. hot B3 stars) and post-main sequence stars (yellow and orange giant, G to K). One of the most beautiful objects to observe in the heavens.

Carlos,

For me you captured the beauty and variance of this cluster. I enjoy the hint of color in your sketch and the faintness of stars that you've captured. Good luck in your next observation and sketch. You wonderful work.

Carlos,

A stunning sketch of a great and showy open cluster. Nice work on the multitude of faint stars. You are a man of amazing talents at the eyepiece drawing board.

Frank

Frank, Jay, and Rony

Thank you for your kind compliments on my M35 observation. I always enjoy observing this spectacular open cluster. The amount of stars visible are daunting to record but well worth the effort. The best of luck in your own observations.

Carlos
