Currently, I have a decent $100 IR camera in the observatory hooked up to a Slingbox. This lets me watch the main telescope room while I'm in the warm room with the door closed.
Notice the small B&W image on the right screen, bottom left corner. Thats my slingbox feed.

As I move more towards gearing up for remote operation, I cannot use the slingbox due to its higher bandwidth requirements in order to stream the video over the internet. I am out in the middle of nowhere and the only ISP I can get has pretty puny outbound speeds. I'd like to switch to a capture device running on the main computer that can display normal video if you are on the computer, but also supports automated screen capturing, timestamping on the image, and even FTP upload offsite to my webhost. Does anyone recommend any software, or hardware+software combination? I do have an old PCI capture card, but I may like a newer USB version too. My camera has a standard RCA connector.
Thx

Wow, thx. So I could just run this and minimize it. Does it have a full res, full framerate preview window to look at while I'm at the observatory? Is this what you use?

Yes and yes. Yes, yes. It's one of the tools.
Here is another and it's also free.
I also stream video via CCDSoft or MaxIm DL 5.0 MaxIm does a better job with video than CCDSoft does.

CCDSoft does have VFW support. Maxim does too? What do you do with it in these programs? View only? Does Gstar have a website?

With CCDSoft I am only able to view (may be my setup), but with MaxIm I can capture (frames or video). I haven't tried guiding but I don't see why I should be able to.
