Well, I've had my GT70-90° for some time now. I have never been disappointed with them. I thought I would go for more aperture, hence the GT100-45°.
They arrived triple boxed with more than enough packing with bubble wrap and peanuts.
I knew they would be a fair bit bigger than my GT70's. I was a little surprised just how big and heavier they were.
I use a Manfrotto 028 with 503 HDV head. This setup coped very well indeed.
My first object was unusual for me,it was Venus. I first used the 23mm eyepieces supplied with the GT's. This gave me 23x. I noticed straight away that there was a ghost image of the crescent in the left tube, none in the right tube. The CA was quite apparent also. Cyan in the left tube and Green in the right tube. When viewed together, the Cyan won.
The image itself was quite good. Nice and sharp if somewhat colourful. I then tried the 13mm eyepices that came with the GT100's which gave me 41x. More or less the same problem. If you don't like CA there could be a problem for you. Perhaps filters could help here?
Next up was the Moon. Again CA problems, but was very acceptable to me. I did like the image these bino's were giving of the Moon.
I thought before going on to my usual targets I would try some different eyepieces I had. First to go in one tube at a time was my Baader Genuine Ortho's. Surprise, surprise, they would not come to focus at all. In fact they were a long way off coming to focus. Next in were my Brandon's, no problem at all. They certainly cooled down the 'warm ' image. Very nice, but I don't really want to double up on these!
My UWAN's were next(not the 28 of course). I was really surprised with these. The 7mm,yes 7mm transformed the view of the Moon. Now this eyepiece gave me 76x. Don't forget I was using it in one tube at a time. Whether I can bring the images together if I had two remains to be seen? The image was very sharp, although a little dimmer.
I did have a quick look at Saturn. The best view was with the 13mm 41x standard eyepieces that came with the GT100's. I must say my view South is over close rooftops.
The first stars I viewed was Mizar. Lovely split, nice and clean. Thought I would try M51,one of my most difficult targets. Very easy. I could make out the core. Very pleased with that.
Usual targets next. M45,double cluster then onto my favourites M36 M37 and M38. I resolved these three better than I ever have. The stars are very good out to about 70% but loose out after that
So, am I pleased with the first light? Yes I am. I thought the right tube better than the left though. When viewing using both tubes the images are very good. I was thinking about doing something with the CA. Perhaps try a filter?
It would have been nice to get focuser caps and eyepiece caps which I didn't receive with the package. The mechanics felt quite smooth with no roughness. I was a little worried viewing at the zenith but there was enough suction on the supplied eyepieces to keep them in the focusers. The UWAN's were a little iffy though.
Forgive me if the report was a little basic. I'm not very good at this. I just thought it may help with eyepiece selection.
Clear Skies.

Hi Glen,
Welcome to the GT-BT 100 club
Nice report and I hope you will add more as the days go by.
A quick question: Did the Cyan and the green go away when you used the Brandon's and how was the fit going in and comming out?

I'm up late tonight. Just been out with them again.
I hope to add more when I get used to them.
The CA was slightly better with the Brandon's in. Not by much though.I found the supplied eyepieces quite good. The UWAN did control the CA much better. The fit of the Brandon's was good. Friction should hold these in when viewing at the zenith. The UWAN's were a little looser. I would probably put a elastic band around these for more friction.
I was surprised at the 7mm UWAN's image of the Moon. Very nice. I didn't buy these for the Moon of course.
Hope this helps a little.
Clear Skies.

Glen,
Nice pictures and a great update
Do you have a barlow and if so can you try it with your 7mm and see if comes to focus on the moon. Also, have you tried anything lower than 7mm and were you able to focus it? I would do these test myself, however, I'm still working on my p-mount with Roy from Astrowood and will post my beachchair mount when it is completed. I have also ordered several low mm eyepieces from HS and they will be shipped this week. I will report on them as well.
Thanks

Hello BB,
I do have a couple of Barlow's. When the weather is clear again I'll give it a go. I didn't try anything lower than the 7mm. I do have a 4mm UWAN,so I'll give that a go as well.
I have been rooting through my astro-box from when I used to build Dobs and found 2x 12mm Scopetronix Plossls and 2x25mm Scopetronix Plossls. I will try these as well. May prove to be a good find I hope.
I must get a finder sorted out,SOON!
I also want to mess with a couple of filters. After I try and borrow some.
Looking forward to seeing the creation when finished. I believe Roy does have a way with wood.
Clear Skies.

Thanks Mike. It would cost a few dollars to ship them to the UK though. Going to have a look anyway.
Thanks.

That was a really good report. Those binos look fantastic !!! Maybe a couple of moon filters would suffice for the moon and Venus.
Congrats on a very nice pair of binos !!!

Thanks Markus.
I am very pleased with them. I'm going to mess around with them for a while and see how it goes. Lots of ideas to try. It does help with being on CN,always good feedback from here.

Glen,
One thing that I am very surprised at is ERik D has not chimed in yet, he usually has a lot of good questions to ask. I guess he is on vac.

The sky cleared late afternoon,so a little update.
The 25mm and 12mm Scopetronix did come to focus. They were quite a loose fit and would not sit right when viewing at the Zenith. Zac does supply a bag (10) of acrylic bands which you slide on the eyepiece barrel. These did work very well. I saw no increase in the quality of image over the supplied eyepieces.
The two Barlow's I own are the Zeiss Abbe 2x and a Dakin 2.4x. None of the eyepieces I had would Barlow.
I again tried the 7mm UWAN. This is the high powered eyepiece for my GT100's. The view of the Moon was excellent, very crisp and clear. I didn't buy these for Lunar views though. The 7mm UWAN was also useful on Mizar/Alcor.
The CA in the GT100's is not as controlled as in my GT70's. I may try a filter of some kind to see if it could help. If CA bothers you then the GT100's may not be for you. Although you wouldn'y buy them for Lunar/Planetary. They are alright for quick views. These are DSO binoculars.
The view of Venus was very good in the Blue sky of late afternoon. No ghost image. When the sky was turning darker the ghost image appeared again in the left tube. I had no problem with other objects I viewed.
I still think the resolution is slightly better in the right tube. Not obvious at all using both eyes. They are binoculars after all.
I suspect that the GT100's will vary from pair to pair. So everything I've written may not match what you see. Looking at the eyepieces that I have,I wouldn't bother buying 'better quality' than the one's that are supplied at the magnification they are. I don't see any advantage. I'm certainly tempted to buy another 7mm UWAN if I could merge the images.

EDZ,
Is their any rhime or reason why barlowing wound not work in at least one side of the binocular or the other?
Thanks
Glen, thanks for the additional details and keep up the good work.

Barlowing generally moves the focus point, so there's no telling if a particular barlow will work or not. Depends on if the particular barlow/eyepiece combo moves the focus point outside of the focus range of the GT. I once tested several barlows in the Obie BT100, some combos worked, some didn't. It might work with some eyepieces and not with others.
