NGC 1535 Planetary Nebula
      #2960083 - 03/03/09 12:09 AM

This is a digital sketch based on my live observation and sketch on February 19, 2009. I used the following magnifications of 92x, 184x and 266x. 266x was almost too much as the object started to become blurry.

The PN at 92x was a grayish blob with a bright center and light diffusing to gray and then to grayish black. Basically it was the same constant color across the ball.

As I moved up in magnification the color changed to a bluish teal color. With averted vision I want to say I can almost make out a central star (which I included in the digital sketch). Tapping the scope seemed to really help bring out the details on this object. Very beautiful. It is over 1500 light years away from us and is about -10.0 magnitude. Well, here is the second of my digital images.

Jay,

Beautiful capture of a great planetary nebula in Eridanus.
I have viewed but not sketched this one.
This is an excellent capture.

Frank

Jay,

An excellent observation of NGC 1535 (Cleopatra's Eye) in Eridanus. This appears similar to the Ghost of Jupiter (NGC 3242, in Hydra) and the Eskimo Nebula (NGC 2392, in Gemini). You have captured the soft outer shell of this plantary nebula very nicely (good job using Gimp!). Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Thanks Frank and Carlos for your comments. I really like this PN and enjoyed viewing it. Good luck in your observations.
