Hi All, got a question. I'm about to get a Losmandy G11 with no drive. I have a Meade Autostar DS kit. My question is should I adapt the DS servo (perhaps with Pittman motors) or go with stepper?
The servo always need a reduction gear-train, but the EQ6 system is just a stepper and one stage of spur-gear. Not much noise, backlash etc. Simple. But I have to get it...$$$$
But I already have the Autostar....and it is a nice system.
What would you do?
Mick.

Hi Mick
I do not know if it is easy to Adapt the Meade Autostar, I fear not.
If you are looking for a well priced solution I can recommend this Do it yourself project: http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=de&u=http%3A%2F%2Felegance.rajiva.de%2Felegance%2Findexs.htm&sl=de&tl=en
There is an update in the works that allows Higher Goto Speeds and some other goodies: http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=de&u=http%3A%2F%2Felegance.pro.rajiva.de%2Felegance%2Fpro%2Findexs.htm&sl=de&tl=en
You have to be aware that all stepper motors use a reduction transmission to achieve smooth movements.

Thanks Chris, The DS motors are a bit fragile and just a bit difficult to adapt, but not impossible. My real question is who has the G11, which system is the preference? Stepper or the Servo? Mick.
