I have Televue 4"Genesis and want to star hop up with it. The Tripod came with an equatorial head. I want to keep the very nice quality tripod but want to put on an alt-atz head for star hoping. Does anyone know of any possibilities to make this work? Televue tells me that the tripod that came with the genesis (16 yrs ago) will not accommodate their Alt-Az Gibraltar head and I would have to purchase a whole new tripod with the Gibraltar Alt-Az head. Much to expensive for me....so what to do?

Not sure, but that equatorial mount(Vixen Polaris?) maybe adjusted as to make it function like a alt/az by moving the altitude adjustment forward so the RA and Dec copy a alt/az motions.
Example in photo of a Meade equatorial used as a alt/az.
