Would a Orion Sky View Pro or the Celestron CG-4 be the better mount for the 120mm f8.3 refractor? Maybe I should just ask what mount? I referenced those two because I have seen them. Thanks

CG5ASGT is the just the ticket for a scope of that size and weight. $599 plus free shipping if you shop around.

Between the two referenced, the Sky View Pro. But Luigi is right, the best bet is the CG-5ASGT. You won't be sorry.

Go with the Orion scope, not the Celestron scope. The Orion mount is more better.

I know someone who has the complete SVP kit with the Orion 120mm f/8.3. You will need the pier extension to get enough height for comfortable viewing. It's a great combination for lunar/planetary/double star/star cluster viewing.

I have a Meade AR-5 127mm refractor mounted on a SVP with the extension and this combination works great; very solid, tracks excellent, no complaints at all.

I've had that set up; 120mm F8.3 refractor with the SVP for five years now and I would reccomend it to anyone. The mount handles the scope fine. An extension for the mount would come in handy sometimes however for more comfortable viewing positions. Clear Skies.

And here is my 6" Celestron on a CG-5ASGT with the pier extension.

Beautiful, classic set-up, Doug. Congratulations on this system. BTW, how do you like that mount with the C6 for stability and tracking?

Randy

Rob: Another great set-up. I think I'm being assimilated by the refractor, also.
