I was able to view the conjunction of the Moon and Venus on February 27/28, 2009 visually and using binoculars (11 x 56 mm Oberwerk). The Thin Waxing Crescent Moon (2.9 days old) was spectacular with brilliant Venus (-4.61m) to the northwest. I was able to frame the Moon and Venus between a group of palm trees. The view was impressive in my 11 x 56 mm Oberwerk binoculars. I hope that others were able to view the event as well.
The first observation was made visually on February 27, 2009 (23:30 U.T.).

My second observation of the moon and Venus conjunction made using 11 x 56 mm Oberwerk binoculars on February 28, 2009 (00:15 U.T.). Earthshine was prominent with maria visible over the unilluminated side.
A digital image produced using Photoshop CS3.

Carlos,
Beautiful sketches of the 3 day old crescent moon/earthshine and Venus. I did get a good observation of this event tonight but I missed the main event the night before that you have captured so beautifully above. Great job Carlos!

Very nice digital sketch work. I especially like the trees in the foreground of the top image as it renders a perspective of distance and depth.
Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing these images,
Mark

Carlos,
Terrific sketches! I really like both but like Mark I really like the trees in the foreground. Good luck in your up and coming observations!

Yes, as always these are wonderful sketches. The first has the art-like quality (with the trees in the foreground) that you'd get from a photograph, while the second is more like a science piece with the "FOV circle."
I like both, though at first I was going to ask why Venus didn't have a crescent shape in the telescopic view. That's when I double checked your post and realized you were doing a binocular observation...hard to see the crescent at 11x power.
Thanks for sharing, I especially like the details you showed in the Earthshine. They're subtle and muted, but definitely present.

Thank you all for the wonderful and very kind compliments on my Moon and Venus observations. I was fortunate to have enjoyed the clear skies to make the observations. The scene was so spectacular that I had to tear myself away to make the rendering. The best of luck in your own observations.
