I saw that. They said it was a Tunguska-sized body. It might have been a lot more than meteorites if the calculations had turned out to be wrong. Not only would we be hunting meteorites from that impact, we'd also be experiencing weird sunsets, global temperature change, and a refugee problem from a devastated populated area where it might have fallen. Imagine the destruction such a body would create if it hit a city like Los Angeles or Tokyo.

That sure would have had a huge IMPACT on the tourism dollars

The impact on tourism dollars might break even-people fleeing the scene, and meteorite hunters pouring in (like Texas last week). I can see Mike's bus heading to LA or wherever.

"It is in the same size range as a rock which exploded over Siberia in 1908 with the force of 1,000 atomic bombs."

That was a close one!!

Asteroid 2008 TC3 broke up over the Sudan and meteorites were recovered from it. It was a smaller body than the recent Tunguska-sized asteroid which narrowly missed us.

I wonder if this was a random visitor or if it might make a return trip. I don't know which way it was headed but if it is influenced by the Sun or Jupiter maybe it could come back ? A little closer and this could have been really bad, or how about if it went further from earth and closer to our moon or hit the moon ? What is interesting is it was only seen about two days before it came by and buzzed us !

That is what I was amazed at. It looks like all those SCIFI stories of Earths sudden doom aren't so ridiculous after all. As big as that asteroid was one would think that some defence system from some where here on Earh, or circleing Earth, would have picked up a unknown object at least a week ago.

What really happened, did Bruce Willis and his team fall asleep on the job?

This is pretty serious, I thought these huge Asteroids were always monitored weeks to years in advance! This should be addressed...
