I am thinking to get the Celestron C80ED refractor and this is available either with the CG-5 or the CG-5GT mount. I was planning to get the CG-5 model, but I am wondering now if it will be a mistake not to get the CG-5GT. I know that if I need GOTO in the future, I could get the iOptron GOTONova equatorial kit. Any advice?

I'd get the goto. It's quite cheap right now on some retailers at $600.

Get the CG-5ASGT. As was said, the GOTO is very accurate. Even if you didn't want GOTO, the motor system is much better than the add on available for the basic CG-5.

Get it with GOTO now. The add-on kits will cost more in the long run, the mount will have better resale value should you upgrade, and tracking is really nice even if you don't want GOTO.

Who's selling the CG5? I've not seen this item in any of the catalogs and figured Celestron stopped making them. Nevertheless, get the GT! At $599 (was $549 a few weeks ago) it's one of the best buys in astronomy.
