What is the best portable mount for a Celestron C6? It doesnt seem like you can purchase the SE mount anywhere on its own...
Im trying it on a SLT mount however I think the scope is too heavy for the mount...

Jeff:
Not cheap, but the Discmount DM6 is hard to beat for a 6 inch refractor. With the right tripod (I have it on a heavy duty Meade field tripod with spreader and a Losmandy extension) and the Sky Commander DSC, you would have a super setup. Discmount sells a nice extender for their wood tripod, though I prefer my setup with the leg spreader, which makes for a very stable platform. You really need an extension to view at the zenith.

I bought both of my SE mounts used, from people that were moving to EQ mounts. Got one from here on CN, and the other off of Amart. Check the listings, or do what I did, and run an ad saying you are looking for one.

The C6 is not a refractor. It is a SCT. There are a lot of good mounts that can handle it.

.....and I have a C6 that is a Newt. It sits on a Polaris. It seems Celestron used that name often.

yes Its an SCT, I own the SLT102 Refractor as well, however I think the C6SCT is just a bit too heavy for the mount... I should also mention Im looking for the goto capability. I will be checking the used market for the SE mount...
I was just wondering what commercial alternatives are. Looks like the Ioptron Minitower is a nice one, but the Ioptron cube / cube probe probably would not work...

If all you're interested in is finding as opposed to tracking, you may want to consider an alt/az mount with digital setting circles. A number of options available there.

How about a cube? The cube will certainly handle the weight of the C-6 and it's very portable. The cost is just a little more than $300 and you get goto in the deal.

Not sure the Cube / Cube pro is rated upto 12 lbs I think...
The C6SCT OTA is 10lbs. Add to that a good eyepice, diagnal, camera.... This is where I see the minitower strengths... It would be nice if they could get the cube / cube pro upto 15lbs...
So is anyone running a C6SCT on the cube / cube pro?

I have my C6 SCT on an AT Voyager, which is on an Oberwerk tripod.
The Voyager is an excellent match - but be sure to get extending pier, or a longer tripod - the stock tripod is quite short.

We have run the C6 on the Cube Pro and it was accurate, but, the vibrations were a bit too much. We have several people that are using the Mini Tower with the C6SCT and are very happy with it. Both are GrabNGo, use the same controller, have GOTO functions as well as metal gears. However, we consider the Mini Tower to be a better fit to the C6SCT. It will handle heavier EPS, bino-viewers, etc., where the Cube, Cube Pro and Cube Pro-LE are stressed by these additional items. One other major consideration is the Mini Tower has a much larger and stronger tripod. The tripods that come with the Cube and Pro are the weakest link in the chain.
One last consideration is the one can grow into the Mini Tower instead of growing out of the Cube series.

I have weighed my C6 and it is only 8.4 lbs, add a red dot finder, 1.25 digagonal, and 1.25 eyepiece and your still under 10 lbs. Celestron claims it weighs 10 lbs and the C8 weighs 12.5. Lifting the two of them it is easy to tell that simply isn't true.

I have a C8 on a Desert Sky Astro DSV-1 dual mount with an ST-80 on the other side. I use the ST80 as a finder. It works great. Its hard to beat the DSV for cost and portability. I think it would work well with a C6.

Yes, C6 is about 9 lbs with eyepiece and diagonal. It fits well with the CubePro of 12 lbs. I did load 15 lbs OTA for the Pro with the CW attached, it worked pretty well. By the way, the tripod of the Pro is much stable (and taller) than the Cube's.

Consider an old LXD55. You only need a minimum counterweight for your scope, so the LXD can handle it easily (I use one for my 12 lB 4" refractor).
The advantage over the later LXD75 is WEIGHT. The older mount with aluminum legs is acually not all that heavy. I can easily carry mine out with a C5 on it.
The newer mounts with big steel tube legs add a lot of weight. Not necessary for a smaller scope.
And used LXD55s are CHEAP. Will find one for $250 or less. One recently sold for $225.
