Hi,

would like to show you a sketch on occasion, true to the motto "An unrecorded observation is no observation". Despite unstable weather conditions, I went out late at night. The reward was a approx. 3/4 hour lasting cloud gap with nearly fair skies and enough time for the sketch below.
The favourable observing window is over now for central europe (moon interference and bad weather following), this observation beeing one out of only 4 more intense occasions to glimpse comet Lulin.

Hope you like it.

Best regards
Torsten

Hanto

Very nice sketch of Comet Lulin. I agree wholeheartedly with your motto!

I look forward to others posts like yours of deep sky objects now as I am no longer at my past dark sky home of over 20 years. In the inner city of Portland Oregon, I can only detect the central nucleus of Lulin.

Thanks for sharing this,

Mark

Hanto,

An excellent observation of Comet Lulin. You have captured the nucleus, coma, and ion tail very nicely. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

Torsten,

Thank you for posting. I enjoy your sketch.

Do you observe with a refractor or with a giant pair of binoculars?

Well, I thought the ion tail beeing too faint for visual detection.
It´s the dust tail, is´nt it?

Best regards
Torsten

It´s a 6-in refractor, which I was using with a Baader giant binocular viewer.

Torsten, a really nice job there - you must have very good seeing where you are, I only saw about half of what you show of the tail. Keep up the great work !!!
