I'll have to say I'm impressed, assuming it actualy works. With all the automation it would certainly be easier than most RCs. Looks like the wedge is extra. I wonder why they didn't go with a GEM? I'd realy like to see weight data on the different sizes.

I just took a nap and I had the freakiest dream! I take no responsability for my subconscious!
I dreamt (yes, it is quite alarming to me that I was dreaming about Meade!) that Meade came out with a line of sunglasses that one could, with a twist of a dial, turn into solar eclipse-viewing glasses!
Urk!

They've got so much experience with wedges and forks -- that's my guess as to why not a GEM. Also, a number of the large scopes out there use this setup.
Anyway, while Meade is often maligned for hype, this is certainly a Big Thing that is looking to try to change the face of the market.

For 16 bills, it'd better come with an LPI!
Wonder if we'll see an update to the LX200 (LX300?) with the new base. USB looks mighty cool.

Dave I'm with you there,
Hopefully they'll offer an OTA only option as well.

That's what I'd like to know. And how much do the OTAs weigh? Got to admit it, though. Sixty-five hundred for a 12" RC really does change things.

I imagine Celestron will expand the C20 to other sizes. Let them compete with Meade without looking like they are copying.

Jwaldo,
After they've been out a while, the price, for a good used one as well, will likely come down.

Still, I will likely always be able to get more aperture for the money from a dob. (<-- has aperture fever )
And the fact that almost everything is electronic on that scope kinda scares me :insert running-out-of-batteries graemlin here:

Just bear in mind that the last time I ordered a Meade telescope the first day they announced it (and put a 10% deposit on it) it was over a year before I received it.
