Hello all,
I am in the process of installing a Maxdome II system and am running into a PC connection problem. Everything installed fine on the observatory PC and the drivers are present. However when any attempt is used to connect to the Maxdome rotation board there is a COMM failure.

I am using the required DB9 to RJ11 adapter provided from Maxdome. Also the provided RJ11 cable. I swapped the rotation board with the shutter board and reset the DIP switches with no luck. I know the COMM ports are working because I can swap comm ports and my telescope is recognized by the computer.

Any ideas from other Maxdome users on what I could be missing. Everything else works fine at this point, limit switches and such. I am trying to finish up the install.

I tried technical support but they are a little slow to respond.

I appreciate any ideas.

Clear skies,

Why dont you call exploradome and ask them? If they are promoting the use of Maxdome with thier dome, they should know how to help thier customers.

Are you using a Maxdome II system in your dome?

Understandable response.
However, Explora Dome does not manufacturer the Maxdome II circuit boards. Diffraction Limited/Cyanogen manufactures the product in question. And they are not available for technical support. Explora Dome is well versed in the product being offered yet is not fully aware of what would cause this situation.

Explora Dome was available for technical support this weekend and was extremely helpful. Also, the hardware that is supplied by Explora Dome is flawless. The wiring harnesses designed by Explora Dome are first class. Actually the hardware install took less than 2 hours, including the circuit boards. Getting it connected to the PC has been a week long drama. With no luck.

Thank you for your consideration.

Rodney,
I think your best bet is Cyanogen. George has always been very helpful and responsive whenever I needed help in the past.

While it is very possible there is an issue with the boards, I would be surprised if both boards are suffering from a comm problem. I would think the first step would be to verify the wiring from the 9 pin to RJ-11 adapter out to the Maxdome-II board since your comm ports work.

If you had another adapter you could just swap pins 2 & 3 and loop it back to another comm port using Hyperterm or some other terminal program, that would prove the wiring.

Hey Marcus,
Yeah I talked to Doug today and got some feedback on testing the wires, adapters and the boards themselves. It doesn't sound to hard to diagnose. However, after using the Celestron scope on the available COMM ports I will focus on the adapter and wires.

Thank you,
