HEQ5Pro (Sirius) and Celestron C11 XLT
      #2990256 - 03/18/09 10:00 AM

I am considering a 2nd hand C11 OTA which weighs 12.5kg. Add a few goodies and thats about 16kg (or 35 pounds). That's just under the rated 18kg for the HEQ5Pro.

So my question is whether this mount will be ok for visual use. I'm not planning to do AP with it (and realize I would need a bigger mount for that). The tube is relatively short (24") which may help.

Any opinions as to whether the HEQ5Pro (Sirius) will do the job OK?

I am using my C11 on a Sirius mount and I find it quite adequate for visual work and use with a Mallincam. However, I have swapped the 1.75" tripod legs for 2" legs from my ASGT. I also use a six inch counter-weight bar extension allowing for balance with two 11 lb. counterweights. I always use vibration supression pads on concrete/asphalt and occasionally on other surfaces. The Sirius mount provides excellent tracking and GoTo capability ... I am very pleased with it. The mount seems to be of excellent quality and only adjustment required was minor/additional alignment of the polar scope. I have upgraded the firmware to V3.24.

There's an ongoing discussion on this here. Plase make your comments there so the OP doesn't need to look in two places to get his feedback.
