Tom,

For the CGE it's one 25lb weight with the basic mount and in the CGE925 and 1100 packages. Two 25lb weights come in the CGE1400 package. I don't know about the CGE800 package. I also don't know about the larger CGE Pro but I'll bet it's the same ... the mount may be bigger but the OTAs on it are the same.

I've heard that there is an 11lb CGE counterweight although I've never actually seen one in person or available for sale. Just about everyone who needs something smaller than the 25lb CGE counterweight gets the Losmandy G11 7 or 11lb weights.

Tom:

Call/e-mail the various vendors you plan on doing business with. I received 2 X 25 lb with mine; I believe my mount was from a "broken" CGE1400 package. I've read of buyers receiving one 11 lb, one 25 lb, or two 25s - all depends on what the vendor includes.

I bought an 11 lb CGE CW back in (IIRC) '06; haven't seen any available for a long time. I'd wanted a second one, but kept putting it off - oh, well...

I've also read that the Losmandy CWs work fine with the CGE.

I believe that the CGE800 comes with an 11lb CW. You could still get an 11lb CW directly from Celestron

Hmmm... the only 11lb I could find on C's site was for the CG-5 (which won't fit the CGE). I'll dig deeper...

If I may ask. How much weight do you use with your tandem setup. I will be using a C8 and a TMB-130+guidescope?

Thanks for the info. I will call instead of internet order.
Still trying to figure out how much weight I will need? Do I get the same weight of the equipment or 2/3rd's the weight of the equipment or what. This will be my first dealings with a GEM. Again thanks everyone for your help.

Joe, that was the same way I got my CGE (and likely under the same circumstances) ... that 2nd 25lb saved me the $110 plus shipping (in addition to the discount on the mount itself).

I agree that it's always a good idea to explore all your options with a dealer and explain what your needs really are. In my case I absolutely had to have the ability to handle 55lbs of equipment.

Losmandy weight work and they are substantially cheaper. I just scuffed 'em up with some 320 grit paper and put about 4 coats of flat black Rusoleum on them.

That they are - but the prices are way beyond my budget, which is firmly in the "fix what ya got" catagory...

The page on determining how much weight you need, though...
