I was quite impressed with the weights. They have a nice machined look to them I thought.

We use U bolts to hold it down to the top plate in the pier. This has worked very well on the last 3 Celestrons my buddy has had.

Nice post and great pictures, denjo. Congrats! I used to work for a freight company for too many years, and it was always a big day when all the boxes in one shipment arrived together, and without looking like the truck ran over them. (Well, not really quite that bad).
Should be able to re-"coop" your investment first night out!

LateViewer,
Yes that is a 11". Not sure of the height of the pier? Maybe the owner "Gary Cooper" can chime in with that for you. Gary is my best friend and lets me share his observatory with him.
I took the photos and posted so everyone could have a look at this great mount. Most photos don't show details because the mount is so black so I had to brighten and tweek the photos up alot. Hope this gives you all a better idea of the size and what this mount looks like.
I had a blast last night helping Coop set it all up. Now we have the best of both worlds, a wide field refractor and a large SCT. Perfect.
Coop is a visual observer mostly and some web caming of the planets. The scope is a little too high right now but it will be perfect once a metal dew shield is installed. To balance it right now the scope is all the way forward on the dovetail. With a metal dew shield installed the scope will be slid back on the dovetail to balance making the height just right for visual work.
My scope is in the back ground in the last photo, AT 111 on a Atlas with a WO 80ED piggybacked.
Last night was first light for the GGEM, under very poor skys. It worked perfectly. Very little mirror shift also. Stars were very pin point and set up, alignment were very straight forward.

lateviewer< The top of the pier is 48 inches off the observatory floor. It is 52 inches to the top plate. Then the top of the tripod is set on top of that. It puts the 11 inch scope around 6 inches too high for me. I am only 5foot 6. One would probably want to make the pier around 36 to 40 inches according to your height. I purposely made the pier 48 so I could accomadate a large refractor... Hope this helps.. CS Gary

Waassaabee,Yea, I was waiting in the front yard when fed ex drove up. The driver was impressed with our roll off roof observatory.I still was not really ready. I had to go to Lowes for some hardware. Thanks to astronomics the scope was delivered within 48 hours of me ordering it online. Good job astronomics. Plus I got the cloudy nights discount and Free shipping. What more could I ask for lol. cs Gary

Well, we had first light with the cgem 11. The views were at least as good as my old 10 inch newt. The go-to is dead on. Much better then my asgt cg5. The cg5 was good sometimes but other times not. Probably user error? I was rather impressed with the hand control polar alignment. It gets you pretty close, so no need to purchase a polar scope. Although anyone taking astrophoto over 1 min. would more than likely need to do a drift alignment. I also enjoyed the real time clock. No more need for entering time and date. There is a little bit of mirror shift on the focus. But ,all in all, I am very happy with the set-up. Cannot wait to do some web cam shots with it. Cs Gary
