Saturn Observation (March 27, 2009)       #3010128 - 03/28/09 03:35 PM Attachment (66 downloads) Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   I made an observation of Saturn on March 27, 2009 (03:00 U.T.) using my 9-inch (23-cm) F/13.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain under average seeing conditions (with moments of steadier seeing). A few satellites were visible at the time. Date (U.T.): March 27, 2009 Time (U.T.): 03:00 L1 235.2, L2 258.6, L3 085.0 De -3.3, Ds -2.2 Instrument: 9-inch (23-cm) F/13.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain Magnification: 115x, 253x, and 322x Seeing (1-10): 5 (moments of 6-7), Antoniadi (I-V): III Transparency (1-6): 4 Notes: South Polar Region (SPR): Appears dark to dusky (3-4/10) without any other detail visible within. South Temperate Zone (STZ): Appears shaded (6/10) without any other detail visible within. South Temperate Belt (STB): Appears dusky (4/10) and thin. South Tropical Zone (STrZ): Appears shaded to bright (6-7/10) without any other detail visible within. South Equatorial Belt (SEB): Appears dark to shaded (3-4/10) with dark (3/10) condensations noted within the northern and southern components of the belt (SEB-N and SEB-S). A thin and bright (7/10) zone is noted between the two components. Equatorial Zone (EZ): Appears bright (7/10) without any detail visible within. A thin and dark (3/10) shadow of the rings appears over the globe. North Tropical Zone (NTrZ): Appears shaded to bright (6-7/10) without any detail visible within. The northern half of the zone exhibits a pastel bluish color. North Equatorial Belt (NEB): Appears dark to dull (3-5/10) and thinner than the SEB. No detail is visible within the belt. North Temperate Zone (NTZ): Appears shaded (6/10) and exhibits a pastel bluish color. No detail is visible within. North Polar Region (NPR): Appears dark to shaded (3-4/10) without any detail visible within. Satellites (preceding to following): Rhea (9.6m), Dione (10.3m), Tethys (10.1m, south of the preceding ansa (preceding edge of ring)), and Titan (8.2m) The best of luck in your own observations/imaging of Saturn. With the detailed report it will make the sketch even more relevent as the planet becomes more oblique again.
