Declination motor not working
      #3032570 - 04/08/09 05:26 PM

Hello all,

I've recently installed a Goto system (from Skywatcher) to my Celestron CG5 mount, and it seemed to work fine for a few days. But now I hear the gears in the DEC motor spinning idly (and rather loudly) without there being any motion in the DEC axis. What could be the cause of this and what can I do about it? Yes, I did tighten the DEC clutch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything about this system, but from what you describe the first thing I would check for is a loose set screw that holds one of the gears on the motor shaft.

Thanks, JAT! I've already located and solved the problem. The worm wheel wasn't properly fixed to its shaft, and so it moved up and down and didn't sufficiently touch the motor wheel. Was easy enough to solve.
