365 Days of Astronomy Podcast new
      #2812772 - 12/18/08 02:42 PM

I am unable to find any mention of this on CN, so I thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention (though I am sure many, if not most of you, are already well aware of it).

THE 365 DAYS OF ASTRONOMY PODCAST
Daily Podcast of the IYA

"The 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast is a project that will publish one podcast per day, 5 to 10 minutes in duration, for all 365 days of 2009. The podcast will be made available through an RSS feed. The podcast episodes will be written, recorded and produced by people around the world. Each day will have a specific topic or theme based on a daily calendar of astronomical events, themes and ideas created by the IYA. Although all the episodes will have a common intro and outtro that ties into the overall theme, each episode will be completely different."

I am working on a podcast featuring Wil Tirion, creator of Sky Atlas 2000.0, The Cambridge Star Atlas, Uranometria 2000.0, among many other uranographical publications. It will be available from iTunes or RSS feed on February 19, 2009.

You should go to 365daysofastronomy.org and check it out. It promises to be a very interesting year of podcasts!

I'd love to include the NASA IYA January 2009 What's Up podcast, which is offered to the general public (and on iTunes) here in several standard and High definition formats as a submission for an opening date in January 2009. http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/video/index.cfm

But unfortunately it's only 2 minutes long - which is way too short for the required podcast requirements of 5 - 10 minutes for this project, but just about perfect for general public attention consumption - 200K downloads per month presently. What to do?????

SKYGX aka Christopher, Thanks for the post. I hope it gets some attention. I subscribed before it went active and I love the diversity of the contributors and the subject material. It's going to be an exciting year for Astronomy.

TNX Don.

Hi Cloudy Nights. I just joined. I have always had a passive interest in astronomy but when I heard about the IYA 2009 I started getting active. I have contributed to the 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast. My episode 'airs'... er 'goes live' on April 10th. It is a personal story about building an observatory. I hope you'll listen and would enjoy comments.

By the way, SkyGX, your episode was great! I always wondered about the fine star maps I'd see around made by this Wil Tirion fellow.
