400 Years of the Telescope isn't available for DirecTV subscribers here in the south. None of the local PBS stations have the program scheduled to air as of yet.

Hi all,
My daughter phoned me at 9:15 PM to remind me to watch it; I had forgotten. I missed the first 15 or 20 minutes but the rest was terrific. If you can find it on the web or wherever, get it. PBS is coming out with a DVD; don't know how much that will cost. I highly recommend watching it. As an aside, one of the astronomers mentioned concerning the supernova data on expansion of the universe is Alex Fillipenko of UC Berkeley. I was fortunate enough to go on a solar eclipse cruise with him in 2005. He is a great teacher as well as researcher. And a plug if it doesn't bother the moderators; he teaches a course called "Understanding Astronomy" published by the Teaching Company (do a 'Google search") which is excellent. 48 half-hour lectures; very good for amateurs, professionals or just interested. He is both fun to watch and explains stuff very well.

You can check for local show times on this site: http://www.400years.org/ - just click on the "Check local listings" link on the right side. I missed the first showing, but there are a number of repeats this week in my area.

... and, if you truly missed it on TV, the DVD will be released on 5/12. You can already add it to your Netflix queue.
