AT Voyager or Vixen PortaMount for an AT66 scope? new
      #3047918 - 04/16/09 08:51 PM

I have an AT66 scope that I want to mount on an alt/az. Would you choose the Voyager mount or a PortaMount. Which is best for stability, smooth motions, quick setup, etc.? Any input appreciated.

Hi, I just had received my new Porta mount and itīs incredibly stable and great G&G set up. I put my FS 78 for quick setup. This is more lightweight than Voyager and for your AT66 is enough IMO. You might see the woodland hills site, the porta is just $199 with free groud shipping, this is a really great bargain!

Hope this help.

Clear skies.

The Portamount II now has better slow motion controls plus the head can be removed so you can use a different tripod. I'd go with the Porta, but make sure it's the latest version. Orion has it on their website.

The Voyager's head can be removed to use a different tripod as well. CG5/EQ4 compatible. With a scope as light weight as the AT66 I don't think it makes much difference between the choices, except maybe whether you prefer the scope mounted from the left (Voyager) or the right (Portamount).

My Voyager goes both right or left, maybe you got an odd version?

Mine does, as well.

I had the PortaMount & the Voyager at the same time, & I preferred to Voyager. I found it smoother panning, & just all around just liked it better.

Of course they do ... I completely spaced on that fact. It's interesting when you see something that is oriented one way all the time that you can forget about other options that may exist.

Must be age related ...
