SN 2009dd, and some summer objects.

Well, I was up all night sketching again, but it was worth it. This is my favorite time to observe the summer sky, before all the bugs realize it isn't winter anymore.

First up is SN 2009dd, a supernova in Ursa Major. It's a pretty easy target in moderate/large scopes, so look for it if you haven't already.

Next I observed some globs, M12:

And this was supposed to be M13, but I didn't feel like placing that many stars, so here's that galaxy that's right next to M13.

The rest are nebulae with the UHC filter, Here's a blurry ring nebula...

The nebula with a thousand names, I consider this one almost as impressive as M42.

And lastly, the trifid Nebula. The filter really makes the dark lanes stand out, even with it being so low in the light dome.

TE,

Thank you for your wonderful tour of the Spring sky. You have captured the galaxies, nebulae and globular clusters very nicely. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Carlos

TenthEnemy,

These are all excellent sketches. Very true to the eyepiece view from a good sky and using 10 inches of aperture.

Frank

Thanks, but it makes me wonder what you consider a good sky. I'm in a Bortle 6 zone, when I did these sketches my NELM was around 5 at the zenith and 3.5 in Sagittarius.

TenthEnemy,

Your sketches make me hungry to get back to my scope and the hope the weather back home stays around now (on vacation). Nice views as Frank said from the eyepiece.
