Some awesome deals going on for TMB EPs right now. I got a 9MM that gives me 211X. Should I get the 8MM or 7MM (237X / 271X)?
I don't expect to be able to use the high power at all where I live, but if they can be used every time I go away to Anza ( was once rated one of the 10 best spots for star gazing in the country - or was it anywhere?) where it's high up in the desert mountians and very dark. I go there once a month and I just want to know which EP I could usually use up there. Could I even go for more power?? Only expecting to use this for planets and the moon, not faint objects.
Thanks in advance!

I live in Maryland, my skies are not very good. The higher power that I can use without problems is 12mm. I rarely use 8mm (except with the moon, which allows me to use 7mm). According with I have learn so far, if I was you I would get the best wide 12mm eyepiece possible (you may look for a good wide field one for high power explorations that can be an improvement on your 26mm Plossl+2X shorty combo; for example I use a 12mm Pentax XF, but there are many others in the market). Now, your 9mm TMB sounds excellent, and below that I would not go beyond 7mm (which I have, but I use almost only for lunar observations). Hope this helps.

Thanks!
I went for the 7mm. I think the 8mm will look too much the same size in magnification as the 9mm.

Looking at your signature, I'd go with a wide field EP somewhere in the low to mid teens 12-15mm. The 68° apparent field is nice in the ETX.

• Bunch of Plossls, a few Orthos, some SWA & UWA...

Makes little difference with my ETX tracking. My next eyepiece is likely a high quality zoom eyepiece to use with my Lightbridge DOB.

Please let me know if you ever find one. I've always found the compromises unacceptable. That includes "highly regarded" zooms like the Televue Clickstop & Baader Hyperion 8-24.
