Here's my airline transportable ASGT system that works great with my lightweight, 11 pound, Stellarvue SV115T refractor.
The tripod and aluminum tube pillar fit in my checked baggage and the ASGT and counterweight fit into a carry on case that has enough padding that it can be checked as a second bag. The scope fits into a carry on bag as well.
It's actually quite stable for a "travel" GEM mount.

Here is/are my new "baby(s)"..
A used, but well loved, Atlas that has ben HyperTuned, and has a ton of upgrades..
Riding on top is my new(to me) M10 OTA!!!
I cant wait for first light. I am still waiting for one more CW(7#) for the M10, and I am also waiting for my friend to send me a "copy" of theSky6!!!!! EQMOD seems a bit confusing now..but so did the ol Magellan, and even the NexStar systems...Iw ill get used to it in due time...
I have several weeks to do my research since I am waiting for my pier adapter to be made along with some SS/CW's..
It is great having a friend that owns a C&C machine!!!

Here's mine which I posted in another post. Made with garden stepping stone cemented to a flower pot which is concrete filled and so too is the 5 inch PVC tube for the pier.
The mounting plates were fabricated by a machinist friend and they hold a CG5 mount.

My permanent and portable gear...
Foreground: Mach1 on 54" Portable Pier w/Televue NP127is (setup is ~7 feet to the tip of the dew shield!) - ready for visual use for the first time. I have a Meade 12" LX200R(ACF) that will be used on it as well...
Background: AP1200 on 32" Portable Pier w/Meade 14" LX200R(ACF) + Meade Series 5000 80ED Triplet APO + CCD gear inside SkyShed POD (took 5x 18-lb CWs to balance the payload and is remotely operated!)

This is my G-11 with Sky Commander DSC unit. The scope is the Orion Eon 120mm Apo. The mount tracks beautifully. Polar alignments are dead on using the polar alignment scope. The mount is capable of unguided, long-exposure imaging. I can watch a movie and return to the scope to find my star dead-center in my 12mm illuminated reticle. The G-11 is a solid, smooth, and pretty mount. For those new to astronomy, these mounts can be purchased used at very reasonable prices. I purchased mine through Astromart and it was in pristine condition. The mount is extremely well made and will last a lifetime if cared for properly. I adapted a Meade heavy-duty field tripod to the mount and it works great. I use an inexpensive piece of luggage with wheels and pull-handle that carries the mount, all accessories and electronics, as well as the counter weight shaft (in background in photo). Kudos to Losmandy!

Thanks, Brian! Yeah, I thought of purchasing the Losmandy tripod, but it is pretty expensive and I see no reason to go that route. The Meade HD, with the leg spreader, is about as solid as one can get. Plus it allows for more height adjustment and fine adjustment for leveling.

This is a restored Classic Mount designed and built by Mr. Maynard Clark sometime in the 70's. This 8" f/8 Newtonian won a Merit Award at RTMC in 1980 for Excellent Craftsmanship. See my sig for the story.
The legs and pier column were made by Cave Optical Co, the rest is all original. It is mostly aluminum, highly polished.

No doubt, direct drive is the future. Very nice. If I did not love my wife, I would buy one! We hope you enjoy it for all of us who buy our stuff used, but love it just the same. Astronomy is such a blast. I think we sometimes will go hungry to buy the next wide-field eye piece.

This is one of 2 mounts that I use. the Losmandy Titan I also have a Byers Cam Trak (under the titan)
On the Titan is a 5"apo, 3"apo (triplet) and a 80mm equinox apo.
The Titan is very accurate and has a very very low P.E. and I use ECU to control the mount.

Here is the 2nd mount I use... an EQ-6 which is a very good grab and go setup offering very good goto and nice weight handling and though it is not as P.E. free as my titan mount, it still churnes up some very nice pictures! and is quite capable of holding 30# of ota & accessories and like the Titan I also use ECU to control this mount

I posted this in the classics forum, but it belongs here!
I had made an adapter plate to bolt my Tak NJP mount onto my Celestron Nexstar tripod. I mostly did this to allow me to use my Newts on the NJP without having to use a ladder (tall Tak tripod), but I figured it would be handy for taking to my dark sky site in SW Utah.
Well, I broke the tripod head on the Celestron tripod when I tried to drag the fully assembled scope a foot across the concrete pad to allow viewing Polaris through the polar finder. Fully assembled scope included orange C-8 with TV NP101IS piggyback on it. Luckily for me, the tripod didn't break completely, so the scopes didn't topple onto the concrete!
For a couple nights, I just used my Meade 2045/LX3, but quickly wanted goto and aperture back. So, I looked around the old farm site and found a section of irrigation pipe. Bought a few bolts and lag screws, had a spare 4x4 laying around, and cobbled this together, which has been christened, the "John Deere Pier":

The Deere Pier was so easy to make that I brought home the other two pipe sections that I found to make 1 or 2 more for home/field use!
I ruminated over how to easily construct a 3-legged base for this, to avoid rocking tendencies, but decided that the 4-legged base was the easiest to make strongest. All I used was a circular saw to notch the 4x4's at the center, and a claw hammer to hog out the waste in the cut. It rocked a little after I was finished, but I managed to find a spot on the pad that was uneven in just the right way to hold the pier steady.
For the next 1 or 2 of these, I'll put casters with brakes and leveling screws. And, if I really want it to look "John Deere", I'll repaint the piers green and the legs bright yellow!
