I just have to ask, in a humorous sort of way, but why is it that nearly all pictures of German Eq. Mounts have the scope tubes pointing north? I never see them "posed" for pictures as they would appear when in use.

Anyway, just curious:-)

Here's mine...a canniblized G11 turned into a Giro-style alti az mount on a pedestal. It supports my 10 inch with rock solid mounting.

Very nice Mr. Bill. I have an Orion 8inch set up almost the same way. Do you find it more comfortable to use when the tube is bottom heavy? Less movement up top at the eyepiece when you're sitting down.

John

Hi John

Rarely sit down while using. As shown, tube is balanced and just matches my standing eye height when pointed at zenith. Very comfortable to use in that position in spite of the dreaded "Dobson hole."

Well, I had one G11 axis left over.....here's a homemade "cube" alt azimuth that is mounted on a G11 tripod with a 12 inch pier extension. That's my TMB 130 onboard.

Exploded parts view....

Bought another saddle. The shafts are 1 1/4 inch so a couple of 2 inch to 1 1/4 ep adapters function perfectly as bearings.

Sheet Teflon bought from Kerr-McMaster. Box made from oak.

Another nice mount Mr Bill. I am going to have to build one of those myself.

New mount and tripod for me. DM-4 with 8" extension and Sky Commander DSC on an AstroTrac portable pier. The eyepiece holder and chart holder are homemade. Everything fits in a carry on size case and the pier case. The DM-4 is superb and the DSCs are awesome as well.

Scope is a William Optics Megrez 110. Eyepiece holder comes apart into two pieces for smaller transport and slides into the DM-4 into the triangular area below the Sky Commander.

Just got my new 30" Antares pedestal and so far its way better than my old tripod, luckily the next few days are going to be some of the best Iv had since April with temperatures in the high 40s (no mosquitos!) and humidity remaining fairly low.

Man I just went through all these posts and let me say you guys have some really cool mounts. Every kind I can think of almost!! Well I have to post a photo, so it might as well be the Pearl. She is the 1984 9" F10 Astro-Physics oil space triplet. Roland Called it the "Onesy", Dale Gribble AKA Johnny Coined it the "Pearl". 1984 - 2010 Whitman/Chisten Refractor. She is sitting on a John Pons customized Byers 812. The base I built from welded 3/16 P&O sheet metal and 3/8 Plate. I am working hard on putting this refractor in my observatory, but still keeping it semi portable. Here she is at the third annual CSPAMP Classic Star Party At Mtn, Pinos 2010..
Thanks for all your great posts. they have me wishing!!
