Joe, I doubt if more than one person will even attempt to make one of these mounts from the material shown. Thanks for the kind words as to my production quality. All is forgiven. Andy

Thanks Shawn. I find the Twilight II mount very easy to setup and use. What scope (or binos) do you plan to put on your new mount?

Patents are generally construed very narrowly (even though patent holders would love for you to believe otherwise). A patent prohibits others from making using or selling an invention. An item that is similar in form and function, but does not include features that "read on" the specifically granted claims of the patent does not infringe, and can be made for personal use or for sale in competition with the patented item.
Also, I believe Disc Mounts are "patent pending" meaning that at this time a patent has been applied for (covering what aspects, I don't know) but the USPTO hasn't yet seen fit to grant the patent. A pending patent may never issue, and affords no protection. It's really just a head's up to try and scare would-be competitors away from a market with the threat that "you could come in here, but if my patent issues, I'll be able to push you out".
Note that if a patent does issue, there is no exemption for making it yourself, for personal use. Infringement is infringement. You can't make, use or sell a patented invention without a license (i.e., permission) from the patent holder.
Regards,
Jim

I am especially interested in the attachment you have at the end of your counterweight. Does it dampen vibration?
